The library was closing, the local coffee shops were shutting their doors, and my energy was draining faster than my laptop battery. I remember thinking—why isn’t there a place where students can recharge, refocus, and refresh anytime they need it? That’s when the concept for Study Buzz was born: a 24/7 customizable beverage bar designed to fuel productivity and creativity for college students.

As a business management student with concentrations in entrepreneurship and international business, I’ve spent years learning about market gaps, consumer behavior, and what drives brand loyalty. But Study Buzz isn’t just a business plan—it’s a reflection of the student experience. We’re constantly balancing academics, work, and social life, often running on caffeine and convenience. Study Buzz was built to meet that need: an accessible, student-centered beverage experience that offers the freedom to create your own drink, anytime.


From Idea to Innovation

Launching a startup in college is both exhilarating and challenging. My journey began by identifying a problem shared by nearly every student I knew—limited access to affordable, customizable drinks after typical business hours. While national chains like Starbucks and Dunkin’ dominate the daytime coffee market, they don’t cater to students pulling midnight study sessions or attending early morning labs.

That’s where Study Buzz steps in. Our concept combines self-service technology with personalized flavor options, offering coffee, energy drinks, teas, flavored waters, and more. Students can mix and match to craft their perfect “buzz,” experimenting with unique flavor combinations that reflect their mood or study goals. Think of it as a DIY drink bar for the next generation of go-getters.

What sets Study Buzz apart is not only the 24-hour accessibility but also its community-driven environment. Instead of the impersonal, fast-paced atmosphere of most coffee chains, Study Buzz aims to create a cozy, collaborative space where students can meet, study, and unwind. The pastel branding, UT-orange accents, and open seating design all reinforce a sense of belonging—a home away from home for students who thrive on creativity and caffeine.


Building the Brand

Bringing Study Buzz from concept to reality has involved market research, financial modeling, and a lot of creative branding. I conducted surveys across campus to understand beverage habits, price preferences, and customization trends. The data confirmed my assumption: students want affordable, personalized, and convenient options that fit into their unpredictable schedules.

From there, I developed the Study Buzz business model using TAM/SAM/SOM calculations, identifying a massive potential market within university populations. Our initial launch will target the UTK campus, but the long-term goal is expansion to other colleges nationwide. The combination of high initial equipment investment and unique customization technology creates a natural barrier to entry—giving Study Buzz a sustainable competitive edge.

At its core, Study Buzz is about empowerment. It’s about giving students ownership of their choices and energy. The ability to design your own beverage isn’t just fun—it’s symbolic of the independence and creativity that define college life.
